Jewish Peoplehood
Jewish Peoplehood is at the center of what unites World Jewry. Yet as time progresses, this core value is often replaced with other, more singular notions of what it means to be Jewish, such as Judaism as solely a religion or ethnicity; while in Israel, the Zionist dream has largely been embraced at the expense of any sense of shared destiny with the Jewish people. In response to this challenge, the Reut Institute has spent the last decade working to promote Jewish Peoplehood within Israel and throughout the Jewish world. Our team focuses on four major areas: (1) The collapse of the old covenant between Israel and World Jewry and the need to develop a new one; (2) Why World Jewry’s support is of strategic and critical importance to both the State of Israel and Jewish people; (3) Using the Jewish value of “tikkun olam,” or repairing the world, as a bridge between Israel and World Jewry; and (4) Framing Israel as the nation-state of all Jewish people within Israeli society.
